Math and Art: Multiplication

Equations as art. Is that even possible?
Lettering and numbering works well with learning the multiplication tables.
There are learners that prefer to learn using visual reinforcements. Every learner can benefit from this type of  visual learning. Art is a school subject that is passed over but can greatly enhance  the learning process.

Repetition commits the facts to memory. Art brings new types of learning techniques to learning multiplication. Drawing and creating are fantastic learning tools. Each time you create new art you can be learning the same multiplication fact or learn a new one. Repetition is a little more fun!

My new class combines art and math with different ways to make art.
I think you will enjoy it!

Happy learning!

Pencils

All pencils are not created equal.

Have you ever tried to draw or write with an inferior pencil?
It is very frustrating. The lead doesn't work and it is not dark enough. The eraser is horrible! The eraser makes the lead look like a squashed bug... that can't be erased. It is horrible!!

Trying to create art with supplies that don't work is like trying to carry a raw egg with a fork. Using quality supplies is important. Especially if you want to keep your sanity when working with children. I am not saying to professional level supplies... but good quality children's supplies.

Every teacher I know recommendsTiconderoga pencils. I have to say I agree. The lead and eraser both work well. It is easy to shade with 2B Ticonderoga pencil.

Save yourself frustration and start with a good pencil.
I'll get into colored pencils and types of lead later.
This is a big deal to artists

Doodle away!

Creating and Crafting Supplies

11/18/2021

Crafting and creating is such a fun way of learning. The subject of art needs to be incorporated into the school day everyday. It doesn't have to be a big project. Try small drawings and doodles. Mini crafts are good too. The important thing is to spend 10-15 minutes creating. It gets the brain working in different directions compared to traditional school.

Gather any supplies. Find different types of pens and pencils to use. Printer paper, construction paper, wrapping paper, and lined paper can be used to create. Scissors, ruler, stapler, and tape are probably somewhere in the house!
Put all the supplies in a central location. In my classes we make an art box. Being organized makes the art time easier. Add stickers, post it notes, and anything else you can find that would make good embellishments for projects. Find the old standards of crayons, markers, and watercolor paint and you are ready to go.

There are a few art supplies that you will need to set up an art area. Protect the table with a plastic table cover. (Tape a trash bag to the table.) You will need paper towels or a washcloth to clean-up. Keep a trashcan nearby for messy paper towels.

A water dish is very important and can ruin a painting session. Paper cups tip over easily. It is a disaster when all the water goes all over the masterpiece! Try a short squatty heavy bottomed jar or dish. I use a dog dish. My dog is very finicky about which dish he uses. I bought so many dog bowls for him to use ... and he wouldn't even consider them. My overabundance of dog dishes led to the perfect water dish for painting. It is flat and sturdy and the problem is solved.

Using decent supplies will have a big impact on your art time. Cheap crayons, colored pencils, and erasers really do terrible things to your art work! Stick with a trusted brand.

I hope this gets you started.
Keep creating!

This is a good example of art supplies needed to start a daily art habit.
